Summary

Leonardo da Vinci was a gifted painter, talented musician, and dedicated scientist and inventor, designing flying machines, submarines, and even helicopters。  Yet he had a hard time finishing things, a problem anyone can relate to。  Only thirteen paintings are known to be his; as for the illustrated encyclopedia he intended to create, all that he left were thousands of disorganized notebook pages。  Here is an accessible portrait of a fascinating man who lived at a fascinating time—Italy during the Renaissance。

Leonardo da Vinci was definitely a genius and a man ahead of his time。 He just doesn’t interest me much。When comparing the illustrations within the book to the other books of this series, I was incredibly disappointed。 They were much more cartoon-y than most of the other books。

It is a nice book with easy language, to the point storyline, and the transparent character of Leonardo do Vinci。 This book stands different because it has a lot of information about his life shortly and directly。 I learned a lot from this book, especially the negative side of a great personality that is rarely disclosed or discussed by us。 I would recommend this book to all students of age between 10 to 15 to read the "who was/is" at least once because the way they write is very impressive and It is a nice book with easy language, to the point storyline, and the transparent character of Leonardo do Vinci。 This book stands different because it has a lot of information about his life shortly and directly。 I learned a lot from this book, especially the negative side of a great personality that is rarely disclosed or discussed by us。 I would recommend this book to all students of age between 10 to 15 to read the "who was/is" at least once because the way they write is very impressive and I am a fan of its completely new and unknown fact-based approach。 。。。more

I liked learning more about Leonardo Da Vinci。 I didn't know his parents didn't care for him much but his uncle did and that he studied under a great master。 I also found it interesting he found some tricks to improve perspective such as blurring the background。 I liked learning more about Leonardo Da Vinci。 I didn't know his parents didn't care for him much but his uncle did and that he studied under a great master。 I also found it interesting he found some tricks to improve perspective such as blurring the background。 。。。more

Leonardo da Vinci was a genius when it came to everything dealing with art and science。 His life had many ups and downs。 He is known world wide for his painting the Mona Lisa but there were many other ideas he had that he started and some that he completed。

Very informative and a pretty easy Spanish read! I would recommend this to any language learner because it uses a lot of cognates and common words。 I really enjoyed this book! I loved all of the pictures of his writing / inventions and the pages with extra information。 I only rated it a 4 because non fiction isn’t my favorite and I think there could have been a few more details。

Leonardo Da Vinci, his name catches me whenever I hear it without actually knowing much about him。 This book did a great job as a foothold for me to the man's life。 It briefly answered its question (who was Leonardo?) and encouraged me to further and deeper readings about him。 Leonardo was an unwanted illegitimate boy, and both his parents married someone else after a few years。 Still, the relation with his father wasn't clear in the book, but after noticing the son's talent in drawing and with Leonardo Da Vinci, his name catches me whenever I hear it without actually knowing much about him。 This book did a great job as a foothold for me to the man's life。 It briefly answered its question (who was Leonardo?) and encouraged me to further and deeper readings about him。 Leonardo was an unwanted illegitimate boy, and both his parents married someone else after a few years。 Still, the relation with his father wasn't clear in the book, but after noticing the son's talent in drawing and with his limited options in life, his father arranged for him to be an apprentice to the famous artist Andrea del Verrocchio。 The last's studio was in Florence, one of the red-hot centers of the Renaissance。 It was a significant milestone for Leonardo, he learned there in the studio of his master for 13 years and he became a master too。The paintings of his time were only portraits or religious ones, but frescoes, statues, and pottery were also requested。 So an apprentice would have a good experience in all those。 The book goes further with his life after that。 From moving to Milan and then France, where he had the king as his patron, and also where he died。 All along, the author demonstrated Leonardo's scientific and practical life including his failures, unfinished works due to him not sticking with one project at a time, his famous artworks with the stories behind them, and his valuable notebooks which were written in "mirror writing approach"。 He designed so many inventions, flying machines, weapons, engineering canals, and even worked to make a robot in 1495! Also, he managed to dissect about 30 bodies which was illegal, and came up with fascinating anatomy sketches。Apart from that, the book detoured to cover some subjects, milestones of art, and characters of that period like the contest between Leonardo and Michelangelo。The book's written in a very simple way with illustrations as it's probably more intended for children, but I like how it introduced me to Leonardo Da Vinci through 100 pages, and I would read more from the series。 。。。more

This biography about Leonardo Da Vinci would be perfect for 3rd graders to read in groups in a lesson。 If I were to use this book to teach a lesson, I would have students read to each other in groups and then come together as a class to discuss。 After this, I would bring in copies of Da Vinci's paintings and have my students use their imaginations and look at each painting。 They would want to see what they can see within each painting。 All students have different thoughts, so it would be interes This biography about Leonardo Da Vinci would be perfect for 3rd graders to read in groups in a lesson。 If I were to use this book to teach a lesson, I would have students read to each other in groups and then come together as a class to discuss。 After this, I would bring in copies of Da Vinci's paintings and have my students use their imaginations and look at each painting。 They would want to see what they can see within each painting。 All students have different thoughts, so it would be interesting to see what each student noticed。 Then, students would pick one specific painting and write about it。 What do they see? What are the colors like? Is there a pattern? Why did you choose this painting? Whole-class sharing of each student's writing piece and picture would be the end of the lesson。 Within this book, there are no issues of equity or diversity。 。。。more

I gave this one a really high rating compared to other books from this series, this could just be because I like Leonardo da Vinci a lot, it might be because there is a ninja turtle named after him。 The illustrations are cool and like the others you do learn a lot。

This book is written in Spanish for young readers。 There is a lot of information but writting in a simple way for kids that is great for a Spanish learner like me。I loved this book for two reasons: #1 Leonardo da Vinci is a very interesting guy。 #2 It was just right for me as far as language ability。 I would say it could be rated maybe B1 level。I am ready to try more of the books in this series。

Great book I read with the kids for an art history project。 The timeline in the back of the book helps。 Illustrations helped as well。

Besides an artist, he was brilliant scientist who had sketches of flying machines and other modern inventions。 Bill Gates bought one of his notebooks。

Great series for kids。 I always learn a lot whenever I pick up one of these books。 I like to be able to help the kiddos with their Wax Museum projects and these are the books we use so I've read quite a few。 Most of them are written in a similar style, so usually my ratings are based more on how I personally felt about the people the book was about。 I like Leonardo da Vinci as much as the next guy and I definitely went and crowded in to see the Mona Lisa, but this book left me feeling kind of me Great series for kids。 I always learn a lot whenever I pick up one of these books。 I like to be able to help the kiddos with their Wax Museum projects and these are the books we use so I've read quite a few。 Most of them are written in a similar style, so usually my ratings are based more on how I personally felt about the people the book was about。 I like Leonardo da Vinci as much as the next guy and I definitely went and crowded in to see the Mona Lisa, but this book left me feeling kind of meh。 He's definitely an impressive dude, I just didn't care that much about his life details。 I'm not sure why。 It could also be the mood I'm in right now。 Things are weird at present。 A couple of fun facts: *Designed a bicycle 300 years before the first bicycle was built。 His designs would've worked。 *Born out of wedlock and parents didn't want him but his dad supported him financially。 *Dad got him an apprenticeship with an artist and changed the world。 。。。more

The overview of Leonardo's life was well presented and easy to read。 What I didn't like we're the illustrations - you can't talk about how gifted Leonardo was and then include juvenile sketches of his works! I would prefer for his actual works to be included。 I would also prefer different text for the inserts/asides as the all caps is not the easiest to read。 So the information gets 5 stars, especially for it's target audience of children (though adults can learn something too from reading, I di The overview of Leonardo's life was well presented and easy to read。 What I didn't like we're the illustrations - you can't talk about how gifted Leonardo was and then include juvenile sketches of his works!
